The LD Podcast

Podcasting is a new world, where you can explore new interests and hear from people with unique perspectives and passionate views. As a sibling of blogging, podcasts contain opinion of individuals, music, rants, information and just about anything you can imagine. Trying out new podcasts is simple and free, and you never know what gems you might uncover.

I'm using this space to list some of my favorite podcasts and podcasters, podcasts worth taking the time to explore. You can also go to Podshow and look up the LD Podcast there- I have channels set up with my favorite shows in different categories, and you can even subscribe to these channels.  This means once you set up a free account with Podshow, you can have your favorite podcasts delivered into one channel, or folder, onto iTunes or even your ipod or mp3 player, and play through, just like your own, private radio channel.  This is the power of the web now- you can be your own media network, and eve share your network selections with others.  This is what connectivity is all about!

Parenting Podcasts

Mommycast

The original parenting podcast, by Paige and Gretchen, two moms with seven kids between them. Listening to Paige and Gretchen is like having an (audio) adult playdate with your girlfriends. They give me something to think about or talk about in every show. Much better than The View, and you can listen anytime you want!

101 Uses for Baby Wipes

Dennis Gray talks about being a reluctant parent, but he has to be a great dad, based on his podcast alone. Dennis's podcast is a Daddy cast, often including panel discussions with other podcasting dads, giving Moms a Dad's view of the world. Dennis does a great news segment, so it's great to listen to, even if just to catch up on what's going on. Dennis has a six year old son, so he has definitely mastered what to do with all those leftover baby wipes wandering around his household! [Currently on Haitus as of 12/24/06]

Manic Mommies

Erin And Kristen are two wonderful moms with lots of energy, balancing parenting and work.

Autism Podcast

Michael has a son with Autism, and does this well-researched podcast, featuring many expert interviews- very helpful for parents with children on the autism spectrum.

Kids Wife Work Life

This is a great "couples" cast, where a husband and wife talk about the ins and outs of juggling a relationship, being parents, and dealing with life in general. Great fun!

Just One More Book!  This podcast is by a husband and wife team- Mark Blevis and his wife, Andrea.  They review wonderful children's books, play listener reviews, and interview authors and illustrators.  I;ve had them on the LD Podcast, and they are simply wonderful- we had the best time sharing the books that really made a difference in our children's lives.

Career Mom Radio

Education

Teaching for the Future

A graduate student talks about how teaching is changing, and how technology helps, and perhaps complicates, teaching. For example, a recent show discussed whether using someone else's lesson plan from the internet was "cheating" or whether the proof of whether the plan had any validity was in how it was executed? A great behind the scenes look at topics in education.

Current Science and Technology Podcast

This podcast is produced by Adam Weiss at the Boston Museum of Science. It is very well done, and my children and I really enjoy learning something new in each episode!

Learning Out Loud: a podcast about getting the edge on standardized tests like the SAT by peterson's, a popular test prep service.

Business and New Media

New Media School

Six Pixels of Separation

This is a great podcast by Mitch Joel, a marketing genius from Montreal, Quebec. Mitch is bright and insightful, and always gives me something new to think about.

Managing the Gray

This is another marketing oriented podcast, by one of my favorite people, CC Chapman. CC has a handle on new media and how it can be leveraged for traditional companies- He is always thinking, and like his friend, mitch Joel, they have a way of making marketing and personal branding less mysterious.

Podcasting Podcasts

Daily Source Code

Adam Curry, the podfather himself, always has something in teresting going on, from the most recent podsafe music, to new podcasts, to subjects you just wouldn't hear discussed anywhere else. Always a fun listen, even when it isn;t always kid-appropriate.

Podcast 411

Rob interviews podcasters not only about their podcasts, but their geekdom. He is always well informed, well researched, and doesn't let anyone slide- I really respect Rob, and his book, with Mur Lafferty, Tricks of the Podcasting Masters, is fanatastic and has really helped me out alot!

Music Podcasts

Accident Hash

By CC Chapman, a great mix of music that always puts me in a good mood while driving around.

The Alternative Music Show

In Over Your Head-

Thois is a hiphop podcast by Julian Smith- I've met Julian, and not only is he a great guy, he's smart as hell, and he has opened my eyes and expanded my music horizons. Despite rather frequent use of explicit language, Julian always has something worth while to say, and he is the guru of social media and leverging it for any new media venture.

The Jersey Todd Show- music and commentary from a fellow member of the Bar (lawyer). Very Jersey, great commentary, and I think Jersey Todd simply rocks.

Shows that are worth your time and ears

Digital Flotsam - a story and music podcast- a bit like The American Life from PW Fenton, aka The Satellite Repair Man

Canadian Podcast Buffet: new podcasts out of Canada, produced by Mark Blevis, who also does Electric Sky, an interview show, and Just One More Book, a review of interesting children's books.

Side Interests

A Guy, A Girl and a Bottle- a podcast about wine and spirits out of California

It's a Purl, Man- a knitting podcast by Guido- a great male knitter from Boston- he's a blast and one of the nicest people I met at Podcamp!

Knit cast

marie Ashad interviews famous knitwear designers and others- always fun, but sometimes a long time between shows.
